Boombox Resurrection – Tonight!

Thursday, September 21st, 2006

boombox party!

As you may have noticed our Boombox monthly at King and I has been on hiatus for the summer. However, as the brisk air descends upon our city each year about this time, so return the Attitude City BOOMBOX SESSIONS!!! That’s right, Tonight we’re back at King and I for our first show in 6 months with our FM transmitter and the dirtiest disco/electro/pop records you’ve never heard. So dust off that ghetto blaster, tune it to 97.7FM, order up a Pina Colada (served in a coconut, naturally), and bring your gucci-ass down to K&I TONIGHT!!

*****

We also have some important news to pass along this week. We’ll be taking a breather from our regular Thursdays at Nami momentarily while we come up with some hottt new concepts for their space. We will announce the details as we know them, but for now let’s say you can expect bigger and better things. Thank you Nami for an awesome time each and every week.

Lastly, we’re looking forward to an October 31st Halloween show at Foundation MPLS.

Rave On.

Electro, italo and acid house fans out there are already heading for the lavatory to change their undies. ATTITUDE CITY is pleased to announce that Dutch electro kingpins LEGOWELT and TLR will be making a rare Minneapolis appearance at Foundation this Sunday, September 17th! Come join us in this special quest on their “In Search of Bigfoot” tour. Legowelt has produced a whole slew of great records – he describes his musical style as a hybrid form of slam jack combined with deep Chicago house, romantic ghetto funk and EuroHorror Soundtracks. TLR runs the stellar electro and new-school Italo label Creme Organization, and his track selection as a DJ is second to none. Joining us this Sunday evening will be Chicago’s legendary DJ TRAXX, who has recorded for Creme Organization, Gigolo and others, plus locals KENDALL STATION and THE LURKER.

If you don’t go, you’re an asshole.

Jonathan Ackerman – This Thursday @ Nami!

Wednesday, September 6th, 2006

This week we are excited to welcome to Nami a close friend and amazing DJ. Playing along-side of us will be the dirty south crunk master himself, Jonathan Ackerman.

Unlike most club DJ’s these days, Jonathan got his start in the DJ booth several years ago by hosting late-night mixing sessions at a Minneapolis college radio station. While burning the midnight oil with local underground jocks, it seems as though something rubbed off on him, and Ackerman caught the DJ bug himself. After tireless hours of record digging and frantic energy drink consumption, that fresh-faced college kid as we knew him then has gradually become the eclectic DJ that we witness today. Dishing out the sounds from Watts to Rome, Jonathan Ackerman brings to the decks his edgy collection of giddy Italo, moody minimal, and acidic Chi-town smack.

When we asked him to describe himself for this email, he casually replied: “I am also a Virgo and I love beautiful brunettes, especially my girlfriend. I enjoy coffee and bike rides around the city. Attitude City has changed my life, for the better, and I am honored to play at this event”.

There you have it. See you this Thursday @ Nami in downtown Minneapolis. As always, no cover, $3 drink specials, and good people.
