AC Montreal – Friday, February 29: Loose Joints features Mike Simonetti

Monday, February 18th, 2008

MikeSimonettiFlyer

In our continuing string of stellar bookings, Loose Joints proudly presents Jersey City discophile MIKE SIMONETTI. The former hardcore punk and founder of Troubleman Unlimited Records (with releases by Chromatics, Glass Candy, Black Dice…the list goes on) bears an impeccable pedigree: a former resident at the Knitting Factory (1998), his “Aerosol Burns” weekly (2003) gained legendary status, with bands like the Gossip and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs showing up to play surprise shows in a venue that held under 100 people. Simonetti recently spun his celebrated blog – Italians do it Better – into a second label, while his DJ sets are fabled among appreciators of fine-ass dance music.

We’re giving away more free vinyl, so come early and grab some great tracks compliments of us. Early evening frequencies provided bydisco double-threat Chris Paré and Why Alex, Why?

New Mix – I Lost My Records In Montreal And All I Got Was This Lousy Mix

Friday, February 8th, 2008

Attitude City DJ's For Life!

So I was in Montreal back in November of 2007 playing a show along side Bethany Benzur from NYC and Attitude City cohort David Shaw… The show was fantastic and the next night we were all set to play at another club Mr. Shaw holds a residency at. We hailed a cab and I threw my record bag in the trunk… When we reached our destination we got dropped off at a hectic intersection and before any of us could motion to the cab driver to pop the trunk he had zoomed off in a haze of exhaust and angry, late-night Montreal traffic. My poor records were gone.

Out of love and compassion, Bethany and her husband Gabe donated George McCrae’s “Don’t You Feel My Love” to help ease the pain. For those not in the know, “Don’t You Feel My Love” was first released on single in 1979, and after getting the remix touch by Steve Thompson and Michael Arato, it shot to the top of the charts and became McCae’s most commercially successful 12″ release ever.

This mix is dedicated to Bethany and Gabe for being radical. Some of the tracks I picked out were records that I heard from their extensive disco collection first – Tracks like Evelyn Smith’s incredible italo synth anthem “Lost in Love” and Slick’s bizarre and horny “Sexy Cream”. Other selections are simply a mash up of tracks that I have been f lirting with lately. I hope you enjoy.

Repercussions, Volume One cover

Something of a slightly different flavor, like adding Carolans Irish Cream to your Sunday morning coffee instead of regular cream, the Attitude City boys of Montreal have assembled a collection of feet-warming tunes to cure your winter blues. Filled with the hot-chocolate sweet melodies and snow-crystal clear production skills of the contemporary masters, “Repercussions” is sure to add that certain extra something to your winter driving, warm-house-rocking, or snow-frosted walking excursions.
